For Android users, YouTube Music can now play local files, which is a big addition for an app that’s supposed to be Google Play Music’s replacement.
With this change, any music files you have on your phone’s storage should be readable by the YouTube Music app, the same as it is on a native player app and Google Play Music. Music stored on an SD card should also be supported.
The update hasn’t yet hit my device, but the feature is apparently rolling out, according to those on reddit. And while this isn’t the full migration of Play Music libraries to YouTube Music yet, we’ll get there sooner or later.
