SHIELD TV Gets Updated to Pie, Features Updated Settings UI and Hulu + Live TV App

SHIELD TV is receiving Software Experience Upgrade 8.0 this morning, based on Android Pie.

As for what’s new, it’s a solid list. Those who update will see an updated Settings menu, enjoy the latest security patches, have access to a Match Content Color Space feature for HDR televisions (automatically switch your display mode to deliver more accurate colors), and will also be first to receive the updated Hulu + Live TV app.

According to NVIDIA, many apps on SHIELD have been upgraded already, including Netflix that now supports Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound for audio up to 640 kbps.

If you own a SHIELD TV, you should see the update notification pop up automatically on your device.

A New NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV Box Showed Up at the FCC!

Remember back in June when we saw hints of a refreshed NVIDIA SHIELD TV box possibly on the way? That new NVIDIA SHIELD TV stopped by the FCC today and isn’t being shy about what it’ll do.

The device, which is clearly referred to as “SHIELD Android TV Game Console,” was tested for Bluetooth and WiFi. We also know from the name that it does indeed run Android TV. The FCC ID is VOB-P3430 and the model number is that last part, P3430.

NVIDIA’s filing has mostly been opened up, but as is usual, they hid any photos of the device for some time. Those will be revealed in January of 2020, though the device will likely be announced well before then.

As a user of both previous NVIDIA SHIELD TVs, I can tell you that this is something to keep an eye on if you’ve been scoping the Android … Read the rest

Play Console Device Catalog Points to Updated NVIDIA SHIELD TV

Play Console Device Catalog Points to Updated NVIDIA SHIELD TV

Oh sweet baby Jesus, let this be accurate. According to a listing in the device catalog for the Google Play Developer Console, a new SHIELD TV from NVIDIA is coming.

Running Android 9 Pie and potentially powered by an upgraded Tegra processor, we’ve been hoping to get a new SHIELD TV for quite some time. This is funny because it’s not as if the current SHIELD TV is desperately in need of an upgrade or anything, we just like new hardware and the potential for new features.

The listings in the Developer Console really don’t provide much noteworthy info, considering all of it could be placeholder material. For now, we’ll just take it as a hint that a new Android TV-powered set-top box from NVIDIA could be coming, but until the company announces something, we shall remain calm.

If a new SHIELD TV does launch, will you be picking one … Read the rest
