Google surprised us yesterday when it took to Twitter to show off the backside of its upcoming Pixel 4 phone, potentially months before they ever fully show off the phone or let you buy it. Unless of course, that early teaser was a sign that their 2019 launch timeline has changed and the Pixel 4 will be moved up from its normal October time slot. Maybe Google is done with its last-to-the-party phone launches and wants to mix it up well before the holiday season this year. It could happen, right?
An image of a Verizon Marketing Calendar posted by @evleaks shows no such early arrival. The calendar, which you can see below, shows the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 launch around August, the next iPhone at the end of September, and the Google Pixel 4 in mid-October. Those all line up with previous release time frames from these companies and come as no surprise to see Verizon pencil them in that way.
So does this really mean no Pixel 4 launch until October, even as Google just showed the phone off in June? If we were following previous years, again, this lines up. You should also keep in mind that carriers do have a pretty damn good idea about when phones arrive well in advance, so that they can prepare promotions and that sort of thing.
I think we’ll know pretty quickly if Google has decided to push this up and bring a Pixel 4 earlier. Until then, assume October.
